First Timer at SCAEOP 2024 How do you write an article about an experience that was so great that you cried at the closing ceremony? An experience that reminded you of how wonderful people really are. About how we are all here to live in community and help make each other great. Attending the SCAEOP Conference for the very first time in February 2024 did that for me. Through attending the conference, I have a newly found joy and pride for what I do. As an office professional, never have I felt so energized and empowered about working in an education environment.Being in a room with more than 200 people who think like me, was invigorating. As a first timer, I felt like an honored guest at the family reunion. People greeted me as if they had been expecting my arrival. They were warm and inviting ensuring that I was included in all conference activities.
The professionalism that was exhibited was astounding. Astute start times and full agendas for every meeting. All parties involved were prepared and excited to perform their assigned duties. If there were any hiccups, they were not visible. This conference was a well written and planned orchestra where everyone sang and danced in sync. The instructions for all meetings and workshops were clear and easily understood. There weren't any traffic flow issues that you sometimes see at conferences. The floor plan of the hotel was expertly utilized to take advantage of every square inch of meeting space that was offered. The refreshments and meals were delicious and offered in a timely manner.
During the 2024-2025 board installation ceremony, words could not describe the pride I felt when I looked over my shoulder and several members of RCAEOP were sitting at the table right behind me. I asked them why they chose to sit there. They responded by saying that they were there to support me. I am a new member of SCAEOP and I will also be serving as the Area 5 Director.
I have also joined NAEOP and my local chapter, RCAEOP. I'm excited about what the future holds for these organizations.
